This is absolutely the best date nut bread recipe I’ve ever tried.  It comes from the Tasha Tudor Cookbook.
Ingredients:
1 cup dates, chopped
1/2 cup sugar
3/4 cup boiling water
1/4 cup soft butter
1 egg, well beaten
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 3/4 cups unbleached flour
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup English walnuts, chopped

Oat Cakes

Here is a recipe that I really love to make and eat! Oats are delicious! And they are good in savory and sweet versions.
1/4 cup medium oatmeal, plus extra for sprinkling
1/4 cup whole wheat flour.
½ teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda.
