I’ve been tossing around an idea of a challenge for all the Urban Homekeepers™ out there. Most of us really want to save money, eat well, eat safe and healthy foods, support local agriculture and make what you can for your family instead of buying it.The problem most of us run into is that we have little or no property to grow vegetables or animals on, little disposable income with which to invest in money saving devices like High Efficiency washers and front loading dryers, and sometimes our living circumstances prevent us from making structural changes to our homes…
But there has to be a place we can all start…..
So I am issuing a CHALLENGE to all Urban Homekeepers; A call to…
reuse when you can
make do with what you have
seek out and use local agriculture
to make what you can for home use
make everything you can from scratch
to seek out and learn new ways to be frugal
to develop a spirit of creativity in managing your home
to feed and clothe your family well, but to live within your means.
Use it up! Wear it out!
Make it do or Do Without!

HI Sylvia,
I absolutely take this challenge, but won’t be able to start blogging about it until next week…..read my blog to see what I’m up to this week
But back to the challenge, many of these things I already do, most of them, in fact, but there are some areas that DEFINITELY can use some improvement, and that is where this challenge will help out! Thanks so much dear one!
Blessings,
Lori
Hi Lori,
I saw how busy you are this week! Lady, you are baking up a storm! Looking forward to getting ideas from you!

Sylvia I want to take the challenge, but not sure if I’ll be good at sharing ideas. I will try!
I am so glad you will be joining us! There are many who are taking the challenge, not just the ones posting here. And, if you post the ideas you learn on your blog, someone else will see them and learn!

Yea- i signed on again! i have been doing this informally….trying to minimize and simplfy. Im not sure I can put icon on my blog LOL!!! it’s bread…and I MISS bread!!!!!!! (gluten free is just NOT the same.) but will think about blogging this. just yesterday I was ‘revamping’ the drawer where I keep my measuring cups and such. i needed a basket…found a spare that I had taken junk out of, and was able to use it in that drawer. Perhaps I’ll take a picture of the drawer! I’m not a neatnick but trying so hard to simplfy in an effort to make the house nice. I have no choice but to be creative in homekeeping because i am not that way by nature- and i think it is only by the grace that God gives me in that department to be creative that I am able to acomplish his intentions for me as a wife, mom and homekeeper…
This sounds like how I live my life - and really, always have. I don’t blog about this specifically very often, but I will try to make more of an effort to do just that. I used to be weird and eccentric. Now I’m cool and clever. What fun that is!
Hi Julie,
Im so glad you decided to join in the Urban Homekeeper Challenge fun.
I have actually given that a lot of thought, too. We used to just be weird, now we’re cool, how funny is that?
All tips and ideas to add to the challenge are welcomed!
Come back and visit me anytime, I am so glad to have found a new blogging friend.

I’ve just joined the challenge. It’s too bad that it has taken a downturn in the economy to get me to this point. But, better late than never, right?
Oh most definitely better late than never! I’m glad you’ve joined. Be sure to check back for tips and helps and if you have a blog, post it here so we can learn from your tips, too!
